There is something about the holidays that brings out the creative side in all of us. There are things to bake, things to make, and crafts to create. If you haven't made a tradition out of making Christmas crafts, you should add this to your list of holiday things to do.
Children especially love to be creative and make things with their hands. It gives them a great sense of accomplishment when they realize that they worked hard on something and got a Christmas craft as a result. Not only will they love the process of making crafts themselves, they will also love the special time you share as a family.
The first thing you should do is figure out which craft you want to create. You could make a table decoration, ornament, wall hanging, and more. A great way to get ideas is to ask your child's classroom teacher. They are bound to have binders full of great Christmas crafts.
Once you've chosen the Christmas crafts you want to create, you'll need to purchase all of the materials. If you have a craft supply store near your it may be ideal to buy your supplies there. If you live far away from any stores or just don't enjoy shopping, you can usually purchase everything you need on the Internet. Some materials you might consider buying are googley eyes, construction paper, Christmas magazines, markers, red and green pompoms, and more. Consult the directions for the specific craft to get a better idea of what you'll need to buy.
If you want to do a more unique craft, you can try creating a walnut shell cradle ornament, a jingle spider, or a sock friend.
Another great Christmas craft you can do is to make a reindeer mask out of construction paper. You will need brown paper, light brown or tan paper, Popsicle stick, a pencil, glue, googley eyes, and a red pop pom.
1. Trace your hand on a dark brown piece of construction paper.
2. Trace the opposite hand as well.
3. Cut out both of these tracings, they will be Reindeer antlers!
4. Cut out a teardrop shaped head out of the tan or light brown paper.
5. Put a thin line of glue down near the bottom of each of you hand cutouts.
6. Glue these one the back of your head shaped cutout. Be sure to put them where Reindeer antlers belong!
7. The, take two googley eyes and glue them onto the face.
8. Next, glue a red pom pom down for a nose.
9. Draw or color a mouth onto the Reindeer
10. Glue the end of the Popsicle stick down to the bottom of the Reindeer's head. Be sure it is glued in the back so that it doesn't take away from the face.
11. After everything is dry, parade around the house holding up your new Reindeer mask!
