Hand-Shaped Jewelry Holder For Mom

So, what to give mom this Mother's Day? Encourage the children's creativity through this easy and useful project. This cute handprint jewelry holder will have mom brimming with tears. She'll go crazy over it!

Materials you will need to get started:
Heavy card paper or cardboard
Crayons, marking pens, paint
Glue
Masking tape or sellotape

Material
Sequins and glitter, etc.
Rice or beans or sand - about 1 cup (for a weight)
Length of ribbon

Trace your hand. This is going to be something shaped like your child's hand that will be able to hold jewelry like bracelets, earrings and chains. To begin in this craft place your hand on a piece of cardboard and trace it with a pen. You are going to have to get 2 or 3 inches of the child's wrist included. Now, if the cardboard isn't that thick then glue two pieces together. Be sure that the glue is dried before continuing on with the next step.

Make holes into the hand. You are going to need holes in the jewelry holder to store earrings. Make some holes by using an awl (also called a hole punch) to drive holes into the cardboard hand. Allow some room around the edge so that a small hoop earring can't be threaded through it, but enough for a big earring too. Cut holes all along the outer edge of your piece.

Decorate. At this stage, you can begin to decorate your hand. Begin with a basic color. Color the handprint using crayons, paint or marking pens. As to the materials you use just decide on that based on the age of the child. Begin embellishing your handprint holder with decorations. Attach decorative items. Consider adding special handwritten message to mom inside the finished product. Imagine how she will feel seeing her child's writing every day as she puts on her jewelry.

Last, make the base of it. You can create a base that will support your handprint jewelry holder, once your hand is complete. Get some rice or beans in the centre of your fabric square. Connect the corners. Slip the wrist of your handprint into the weight, while at the same time having a strong grip on the wrist. You can put a piece of ribbon over the area in order to cover up any unsightly fabric bunches or string. Then, in order to keep the ribbon from coming undone, put a dollop of glue on it.

Your handprint jewelry holder is now complete! It should be carried by lifting at the base, not by the hand. One of the best Mother's Day gifts ever is a handprint jewelry holder!
