Although socks and hats are not that difficult, if you are not totally comfortable with knitting on two needles it may not be a good idea to attempt double pointed needles just yet.

You should find a pattern or website that will give you good beginner patterns with clear instructions. Read over the pattern first. If you do not understand a term used in the pattern and they do not fully explain the abbreviations then perhaps you should tuck that one away for later when you are more accomplished in the craft.
